About intimacy work

What is an Intimacy Coordinator?

An Intimacy Coordinator is an advocate for actors, a liaison between talent and production, and a choreographer for scenes in TV and film that include nudity, simulated sex, hyper-exposed content, or intimate physical contact.

What does an Intimacy Coordinator do?

This is an emerging field, and every Intimacy Coordinator has their own style, but here’s what you can generally expect:

During pre-production, we liase between production and actors to find a way to achieve the director’s vision while honoring the talent’s boundaries.

On set, we help achieve the director’s vision while advocating for the actor’s boundaries so they can give their best performance. We can continue this support through post-production.

Why is the role of an Intimacy Coordinator important?

Not only do Intimacy Coordinators save time (and money) by making sure shooting intimate scenes goes as smoothly as possible, but they also create a consent-based environment that allows everyone to do their best work.
